Simple SEO?  Read on…

How do some people get their content at the top of the list in Google? This is the million dollar question.  The are simple steps that you can take to help the ranking of your articles (SEO) and blog posts in the Google search results or SERP (search engine results page).

Fortunately there are several areas you can work on to increase your SEO optimization in your site.

Don’t hate SEO. SEO is your friend…. I promise

In this article we are going to talk about Content Optimization.  If you are new to internet marketing, you are probably using a blog and don’t know too much about websites, so this is the most natural choice to start with to increase your SERP rankings.

Listed below are the top 3 things you can optimize your content. Tips to increase your SEO.

SEO

Keyword density:
First you must choose a keyword for which you would like to rank. Before you pick this keyword, it is best to do some research to make sure it is a keyword which people actually search for but the search results page does not return too many results (under 400,000).

Next you must use the keywords throughout the article. The ratio of words to keywords should be between 3% – 5%.  Any higher and you set off some red flags, any lower and your article does not seem relevant to search engines.  Many factors play into the algorithm which determines an article’s SEO ranking, so the perfect percentage is always changing.

Content Formatting:
Including your keyword in the heading and last sentence of an article, as well as bold, underlined and italic anchor text will increase your SEO.  As with the keyword density, the algorithms mean that these factors are always changing. But, hopefully this helps.  If you have a keyword density of about 4% then you should have your keyword uniquely formatted 25% of the time.  Is this starting to sound like math class?  This tool is a dummy proof way to ensure your Content SEO is just right. I use it and LOVE it ==> SEO for Dummies :)

Content Relevancy:This one is pretty simple. If your site is actually about your keyword, then you will naturally have related phrases in your content, increasing your content relevancy.  But, if you are trying to ‘beat’ the system, the search engines will realize that although you have stated what you keyword is, the content in your article does not have any related phrases causing the search engine to assume you don’t have good content or are a spammer.  So, develop great content and only use relevant keywords within that great content. Told you this one was simple.
